GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter)

Definition

A device that quickly cuts power if electricity takes an unsafe path.

Typical locations include bathrooms, kitchens, garages, basements, and outdoor outlets. In residences it helps prevent shocks around water; in commercial spaces it protects staff and customers in damp areas. Installation locations are specified by the NEC and local code.
